Than again, it has some historical value as it is, being a vet bring back.Īny opinions or suggestions? I'll post some photos later today. I was thinking of getting an original k98 stock and using that. Two holes were drilled under the rifle and new sling attachments were screwed in. The stock however has been completely screwed up, it's got a duffel cut and is missing the front piece, all of the holes have been filled in (indentation next to the bolt handle, sling mounts, etc.) and it has been refinished, looks horrible.

BCD markings, great bore, 1944 production from what I was able to find out.

MAUSER K98 SPORTER SERIAL NUMBERS

The metal is in great shape, 2 different serial numbers though (1 on the bolt, 1 on everything else). The original rear sight is missing and appears to have an aftermarket in its place The numbers are stamped matching on all of the bolt parts as well as the receiver. The bore is shiny with deep grooves and is not counterbored. I am going to restore this rifle to milsurp condition and 'unsport' it. Any feedback or good sources for correct parts is greatly appreciated. However, I saw a great deal of potential in this K98. The big difference is the bent bolt on the k98, that parts aren't interchangeable, and the 24/47 stock doesn't have the sling opening in the side or the coin looking thing in the side of the stock for helping remove the firing pin.Īlso, because of collector value a $200 K98 is GENERALLY going to be in far worse shape than a $150 24/47.As a general rule, we all know that the term 'sporterized' is anathema for milsurp guns. I have both German K98's and various models of Yugo mausers ( 24/47, m48, yugo capture K98, and 24/52c) All are good in my book, but I consider the yugos shooters and the german k98 as collectors.+1. The old royal markings were removed and the new communist marks added as well as any parts that needed replaced. The 24/47 yugos are actuallly refurbed prewar Serbian model 24's. The 98 action is plenty strong and the addition safety ring is just icing on the cake. The purpose of the saftey ring is to help support the rear of the cartridge in case of a ruptured case. The 24/47 has a so called "safety ring" at the breech of the barrel that the typical 98 action does not have. Typically the 24/47 has a straight bolt and the K98 is bent. The K98 has a shorter handguard that starts at the front of the rear sight.

The Yugo surrounds the rear sight and goes to the front of the receiver. Also the handguards are different between the models.
